September 15 is Mexico´s Independence Day. We celebrated by making red and green pancakes for breakfast. The girls enjoyed helping to prepare the meal as well as eating it!
The first Saturday in October we received word from the government that 8 girls were rescued from labor trafficking and needed a place to go. El Pozo gladly agreed to take them in, and in a matter of hours, with the help of our team and the girls living in the house, we bought and assembled 4 sets of bunk beds, created welcome bags, and decorated the house for their arrival. The new girls range in age from 9 years old to 17 years old and were all rescued at the same time, from the same family. Some of the older girls were also being sexually exploited.
This brings the total to 16 girls living at El Pozo that we have the honor of caring for! The new girls only ate one meal a day before arriving at El Pozo and were quite malnourished upon arrival. Now, thanks to the kindness of The Alkare Foundation, they are receiving 4 meals a day and their health is improving.
Thank you again for your generous donations and for investing into the lives and health of underage trafficking victims in Mexico City. Alkare Foundation has been a huge blessing in meeting one of the most basic needs of our girls.
